CLUB Rankings

It is proposed to seed competitions to give all players an equal opportunity to progress through competitions and win .  The strongest players are seeded into different sections of the draw.  This helps avoid strong and weak sections of competitions and tries to ensure the best players progress furthest.  It also gives all players the opportunity to play  some of the best players and improve their game, while ensuring that most of their games are with people of similar ability.

To seed players we need a Ranking system which sorts the relative merits of all players in the club.   It has been decided to adopt and open transparent and simple ranking system  which can be readily understood.  The RTC rankings will be based on a simple points system.

RTC rankings will be based on points won in qualifying club competitions.  Points will be awarded on a rounds and bonus system.  Players will be ranked on the number of points they acquire over the last three qualifying club singles competitions based on what round they got to and how well they played.   Players do not hold their points for the last three competitions they played in but the points they gained from the last three qualifying club competitions held.  If they did not enter and play in one of them then they loose out the points available.

This system will allow the best players to open and maintain a points gap.  However they will have to continually defend their position or they will quickly loose their rank.

The points difference between the winner and loser in a round is minimal .  One point difference for a tight win two for a clear cut win.

The competition winner gets 10 points.  The overall runner up, gets 8 points if beaten in straight sets or 9 if he takes a set.  Therefore all qualifying singles finals should be on at least best of 3 sets.  The looser’s bonus will help distinguished the relative merit of players who progressed to the same round.  In other rounds players who get within 2 games of the winner loose (9-11 or 7-9) will be awarded a bonus point.  Walkovers and even byes are awarded round points but they get no bonuses.

All Players who take part in a competition get a single point.  It is each players responsibility to report competition results and score to the competitions secretary.  The sec cannot award points if he does not have results to hand.  Points will be forfeit if the results are not returned within 7 days of play.
