Tenth Anniversary Mixed Doubles Chapionships for the Kevin Tiernan Trophy 2008

Open to all adults from 16 - 91,

New and old members are you fit and ready for the Kevin Tiernan Trophy?  This is  the highlight of the RTC summer campaign.

For the uninitiated this is a competition for all adult members.  Players are matched with players of complimentary ability and teams are seeded according to joint rank.  Therefore the strongest players have to support their weaker partners whereas the average player is matched with someone of similar ability.  This format has successfully delivered superbly competitive tournaments each year.    If you miss everything else don't miss this.  If you know the rules and are fit enough to play 25-30 games then enter as soon as you get a text notifying of the entries. 

Don't forget this is the main club event of the year.  As it is the 10th Anniversary its planned to push the boats out.  Matches 12-6, You might even get a cup of tea around 3 or 4 pm before the knock outs.   BBQ 5-9, Music 6-9 and prize giving around 7 or 7.30 pm, all members and their families welcome.    If you can't get a chance to play,  come and enjoy the clubs biggest day, relax and meet the other members.  Maybe even bring a cake to share but come anyway.

Exact Starting time to be announced: usually 12 am but it depends on the number of entries. last year 28 players.

Entry Fee: €15

Due to the system used to allocate partners, it is not possible to switch partners or substitute.  Substitution is only allowed in extreme cases and substitutes will be allocated by the Tournament Referee, you will not be allocated a hugher ranked or better partner

Entry closes 6 days prior to competition: Sunday 3rd August, bank holiday Sunday.  This competition will be drawn once and therefore No Late entry can be entertained. 

Draw will be announced and posted here and at club notice board Wednesday 6th August

RESULTS

Last Saturday over 20 juniors took part in the CPS Doubles Tournament which was very generously sponsored Cross Painting Services.  

David Cross teamed up with RTC junior club champion Ciaran Dempsey to take the teenage trophy from Ciaran's younger brother Luke and Ruarai Gaughan.  The game was played with great skill and in good spirit.

The under 13 competition section  took longer to decide and was in dispute right to a tie break after many a deuce.  Ciaran Dunne and Adam O'Brien beat Liam Gaugahn and John Ferdia O'Brien in a thrilling and entertaining match.  They had the spectators spellbound with everyone was holding their breath watching them  battle it out for the final point.  It was so close;  In the end there little between the teams.

The the level of skill on display throughout the tournament was a testament to the great work  Jean and Ambrose are putting into developing the junior players.   They were assisted on the day by Pat Gaughan, RTC Chairperson and  Liam Tiernan Club President.  The children enjoyed refreshments courtesy of Hacketts and Mary Dunne who helped supervise the event.
