Last Saturday over 20 juniors took part in the CPS Doubles Tournament which was very generously sponsored Cross Painting Services. David Cross teamed up with RTC junior club champion Ciaran Dempsey to take the teenage trophy from Ciaran's younger brother Luke and Ruarai Gaughan. The game was played with great skill and in good spirit. The under 13 competition section took longer to decide and was in dispute right to a tie break after many a deuce. Ciaran Dunne and Adam O'Brien beat Liam Gaugahn and John Ferdia O'Brien in a thrilling and entertaining match. They had the spectators spellbound with everyone was holding their breath watching them battle it out for the final point. It was so close; In the end there little between the teams. The the level of skill on display throughout the tournament was a testament to the great work Jean and Ambrose are putting into developing the junior players. They were assisted on the day by Pat Gaughan, RTC Chairperson and Liam Tiernan Club President. The children enjoyed refreshments courtesy of Hacketts and Mary Dunne who helped supervise the event.

CREDIT UNION FAMILY FUN EVENTS
CREDIT UNION PARENT & TEENAGER
The winners with Lena Carroll of Rathangan Credit Union presenting the trophies & prizes of the R.T.C. autumn program of Family Tournaments Club Championship Congratulations Kieran and Ambrose Dempsey. They lifted the Rathangan Credit Union Parent and Teenager title for a second year in a row. However, This years win was hard fought in stark contrast to their clear cut victory last year. Four teams went into the last match with a chance of the taking the title. Pat & Lorcan were pipped for the bronze medal when they went down 4-1 to Tom and Gemma, who Lorcan forced to play some well placed returns to rescue her team. Ruarai was partnered by Ronnie, ably subbing for his mother, Mary who unfortunately picked up a nasty injury early in the day. This pairing played with distinction and did well to deny Ambrose and Kieran of two games, loosing 3-2, to leave the winners finish level with Cathal & Jean, who played some superbly aggressive tennis throughout the day. Cathal's net play combined with his mothers cover of the base line looked very promising. But Kieran & Ambrose took the title as they had beaten Cathal and Jean by the narrowest margin of 3-2 in a very tight match early in the day. The winning pair were always on the move covering for each other and left less court exposed during the day. It is worth noting that all three teenagers in the medals are playing with some distinction at senior level in the club. Gemma and Kieran are previous winners of the young player of the year and Mark is showing the benefits of some expert coaching. Lena Carroll of the Rathangan Credit Union, presenting the prizes said she thought the future of the sport in Rathangan was assured given the level of skills displayed. Club Champions 2007: Ambrose & Kieran (12 games) Runners Up: Jean & Cathal (12 games) 3rd Place: Tom & Gemma (11 games) Parent & Child Congrats to Liam who joined up with Sean Martin, who kindly subbed for his injured mother, to take the Cup section of this event. Liam played very well helping Sean hold off the Walsh Island pairing of David and Megan in the Cup final. Megan's father and sister Rebecca later took the Plate section from Kildare pair Laura and Ronnie, despite Laura playing some very good tennis. Cup section Winners: Liam & Sean (for Mary) Runners Up: David & Megan

The winners with George Hipwell of Rathangan Credit Union presenting the trophies & prizes on behalf of the very generous Sponsors of the R.T.C. autumn program of Family & Child Orientated Tournaments Congrats to Marc & Jean who beat off a very determined challenge from Rebecca and Tom in the final, with a fine display of speed and skill . Laim and older Brother Ruarai held off Eoghan and Dorothy in the plate despite Dorothy playing very well indeed. Jason and Gemma then held of Ronnie and Laura in the Shield. It was a great day of super tennis played under a clear sky and in great homour. George Hipwell, Chairperson of the sponsors, The Rathangan Credit Union who was present for the finals said it was a great pleasure for his organisation to sponsor a family orientated event such as this. He was delighted to see the obvious enjoyment of all the players and told the children that it was never too young to start saving, just like sport and exercise it was an excellent habit to adopt early in life.
